The Colorado Springs Philharmonic and Oklahoma City Ballet once again presented the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, at the Pikes Peak Center over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Local dancers, ages 5-17, have the opportunity to audition in early September to be part of the ballet cast — and this year, three dancers from Revolution Dance Academy were selected to perform!
PAE Youth Company dancer, Danielle Thompson, was cast in several roles: Understudy for “Fritz”, a “Party Girl”, and resumed her part as “Baker”, which she also performed in 2015. This was Danielle’s 4th year performing in The Nutcracker.
Annelise Christopherson, was cast as a “Party Girl”… and Brooklyn Bley, was cast as a “Gingerbread”.
Our talented RDA dancers were three of approximately 70 local dancers chosen for this year’s production. They started weekly rehearsals in October, followed by long dress rehearsals during the week of Thanksgiving (which they loved!).
Danielle says the memories made, new friendships built, and the experience of dancing with a touring ballet company in front of a large audience is what she enjoyed the most.
This was the third and final contracted year for Oklahoma City Ballet to perform The Nutcracker in Colorado Springs. The touring ballet companies are usually contracted for 3-4 years. Another company will collaborate with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic for their next holiday performance in 2017.
