Modern dance is a dance style that rejects many of the strict rules of classical ballet, focusing instead on the expression of inner feelings. Modern dance was created as a rebellion against classical ballet, emphasizing creativity in choreography and performance.
However, the modern dancer progresses with the foundation of classical ballet training. Improvisation is a large part of modern dance skill. Modern is offered as a one hour class to dancers who are in intermediate/advanced ballet and jazz. The dancers will study the fundamentals and history of modern dance. There is not a beginning class in modern.
